New Paltz characters (and a picture of naked men) March 9, 2009

(I meant to post this Friday, but never got around to it. It’s a pretty useless post, so if you have something better to do, you might want to do it now.)

The coffeehouse to which I usually decamp to on Fridays to do paperwork (read: Facebooking, blogging, Lolcatting) currently consists of the following people:

A college kid with a guitar quietly teaching himself how to play “As My Guitar Gently Weeps” with sheet music in front of him (there is a guitar store next door).

A man with white hair and a newspaper writing in an old-fashioned leather-bound journal with a fountain pen.

The girl who is always here on Fridays: she always stands at the counter with her computer, a book, empty coffee cup and papers spread around her and does nothing but Facebooking and MySpacing for hours upon hours.

A Brooklyn-ish businessy dude doing computer work.

Two guys talking with the guy working at the counter and saying things like “The Who Live at Leeds is, without a doubt, the best live album ever made. I mean, I’m just saying.”

A mom playing with blocks with her kid in the corner.

Two girlfriends gossiping in the chairs by the window.

And me, dressed in a drop waist dress and 1920s hat, blue tights (bluestockings, I should say), pink shoes and a pink sweater, drinking chamomile tea and eavesdropping on everyone.

OOh, now leather-bound journal writer is chatting with some friends about how Corinne Nyquist (the chair of the Democrats and a real enemy of democracy in all its forms) “sucked the life” out of the Democratic Party!! It’s a great day for eavesdropping.

To top it all off, I just got an email from one of my favorite farmers, Billiam, with the following picture, intended to “brighten your day.” It is most assuredly not safe for work. What a fantastic world!

My god, I could blog all day and not run out of things to say. WHICH REMINDS ME! Listen to this rad witticism I thought up today: Brevity may be the soul of wit, but what if you don’t believe in a soul?

OH SNAP!
