aloha ‘aina
Political people who also happen to be passionately in love with Hawaii have a big black spot in their hearts when thoughts turn to the tragic history of the 50th state. For those not so familiar with the tale of woe, The Nation has a wonderful overview of how the westernmost state was stolen and what the sovereignty movement is doing about it today.
If you’re not up for a lengthy overview detailing yet another heartbreakingly shitty chapter in American history, might I point you to these bizarre, beautiful, creepy and utterly charming inflatable-via-subway-grates trashbag animals? The bear one is my favorite.
(Aloha ‘aina means love of the land/a desire to take care of land.)
